First Patient Advisory Board meeting

Today marked a significant milestone for the iCARE4CVD project, as the newly established Patient Advisory Board (PAB) held its first online meeting!

Meet our Patient Advisory Board

Comprised of six members from five different nationalities and diverse backgrounds, the iCARE4CVD PAB brings together individuals with lived experience of cardiovascular disease or extensive experience in patient advocacy:

  • Magdalena D’accord (CH) – Chief Executive Officer, FH Europe
  • Maite San Santurnino (ES) – President of Corazón Sin Fronteras Association
  • Aistė Štaraitė (LT) – Development Executive/Council Lead for Heart Failure
  • Paul McGreavy (UK) – Expert Patient
  • Farooq Mohammed (UK) – Expert Patient
  • Max Groenhart (NL) – Expert Patient

Patients at the heart of research

Patient engagement is at the core of iCARE4CVD. Whether participating in research activities through Patient Panels or offering strategic guidance as members of the Patient Advisory Board, patients are integral to the project’s success.

More than just an advisory group, the PAB will be a key partner in shaping the direction and impact of iCARE4CVD research and ensure that project outcomes are truly aligned with the real needs of patients.

A new collaboration

Throughout the remaining three and a half years of the project, the PAB will meet both online and in person to discuss key developments and contribute to specific tasks where patient input is crucial. In this first session, project leads introduced members to iCARE4CVD’s objectives, followed by a thought-provoking discussion on critical topics, including key challenges in cardiovascular disease care.

Drawing from their firsthand experiences, patients and patient representatives provided valuable insights, raising important questions about the challenges of personalised medicine, the need to focus on treatment adherence, and the importance of reaching underrepresented patients.

A shared purpose

Building meaningful collaborations between the iCARE4CVD team and patients will be essential to achieving the intended impact of this ambitious project. With this first meeting concluded, the journey has officially begun—one where researchers and patients will work side by side to pave the way for better cardiovascular care!
